Dr. Alexandra Arraiz Matute

Biography

Alexandra Arraiz Matute is an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies at Carleton University. She completed her doctorate in Curriculum Studies and Teacher Development at the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. Her academic background also includes a Master’s degree in Curriculum Studies and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Alexandra is a passionate community educator and organizer, with research interests that lie at the intersections of identity, culture, race, and migration. Her past research has focused on the importance of relationships in teaching and learning, particularly in the context of healing and resistance within marginalized communities in the mainstream education system. Her teaching approach is grounded in anti-oppression and equity feminist theories, emphasizing the need to honor diverse knowledges and to challenge students to push their comfort zones to facilitate learning.
