Dr. Alexandra Hennessey

Biography

Alexandra Hennessey is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology Education at the University of Manchester, where she serves as the Programme Director for the Master's in Psychology Education at the Manchester Institute of Education. Her research focuses on the development and application of social cognition among children and young people. She is particularly interested in school-based social-emotional wellbeing, the impact of education on achievement, and the role of play in supporting children's development within educational settings. Hennessey has led numerous large-scale, quasi-experimental intervention trials and evaluations, using mixed-methods approaches to assess the impact of educational initiatives on both academic outcomes and pupil wellbeing. Her contributions have been funded by national bodies including the National Institute for Health Care Excellence and the Education Endowment Foundation. She oversees several PhD projects focusing on social cognitive development in educational contexts and holds an externally accredited degree from the British Psychology Society, conferring Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC).
