Biography

Alfons van Marrewijk is a professor of Construction Cultures at TU Delft, where he specializes in understanding the culture of the construction industry. His research addresses how societal changes affect the construction sector and the industry's capacity to adapt to these shifts. He critically examines the rituals and behaviors within construction projects and how they influence collaboration, values, and standards among stakeholders. Van Marrewijk works part-time at the University of Oslo and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, in addition to his responsibilities at TU Delft. His focus on sustainability and innovation highlights how the traditional practices of craftsmanship are often at odds with the need for modern changes, particularly concerning circular construction and behavioral interventions.
