Biography

Alice de Koning is a Professor (Teaching) at the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary, where she also serves as the Academic Director of the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking and the RBC Teaching Fellow. With a PhD in Strategy and Entrepreneurship from INSEAD, an MBA from the University of Western Ontario, and a BA in History from the University of Toronto, she brings a wealth of experience in entrepreneurship and strategy education. Alice has implemented various experiential pedagogies and emphasizes critical thinking and effective communication in her teaching. Her eclectic interests encompass businesses, entrepreneurship, history, art, and education. Her current research revolves around the public discourse of entrepreneurship, sustainable models for social enterprise, the regulation of recreational cannabis businesses, and place-based, community-engaged, experiential learning approaches. She has previously taught at multiple institutions, including the Bertolon School of Business and the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, among others. Alice is dedicated to fostering deep learning through project-based experiences for students, encouraging them to analyze real-world challenges and propose solutions.
