Biography

Alina Shaikhet received her Ph.D. from the School of Computer Science at Carleton University in 2017, where she was awarded the Senate Medal for outstanding academic achievement. She joined the faculty in 2020. Born in a small city in Ukraine surrounded by a rich diversity of Ukrainian culture, Alina developed a deep fascination for visual arts. It didn’t take long for her to see that mathematics and art exist independently. Driven by a desire to share her visions, she blends equations with watercolors, creating fractals in a digital landscape. Alina specializes in teaching first and second-year computer science courses, focusing on algorithm design, data structures, and web development. She has created countless visualizations for educational purposes and has animated numerous algorithms, making the complex world of computer science more understandable for her students.
