Alina Shaikhet received her Ph.D. from the School of Computer Science at Carleton University in 2017, where she was awarded the Senate Medal for outstanding academic achievement. She joined the faculty in 2020. Born in a small city in Ukraine and surrounded by the richness of Ukrainian culture, Alina developed a deep fascination for visual arts. It didn’t take long for her to realize that math and art can exist independently. Driven by a desire to share her vision of mixing equations with watercolors and weaving fractals into a digital landscape, Alina continued her education in Computer Science and Visual Arts, focusing her research on Computational Geometry and Animation. She specializes in teaching first- and second-year computer science courses, with a focus on algorithm design, data structures, and web development. Alina has created countless visualizations for educational purposes and has animated numerous algorithms to make the complex world of Computer Science more understandable.
