Biography

Alison L. Coil is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of California, San Diego. She holds the Ingrid and Joseph W. Hibben Chair and specializes in the fields of astrophysics and cosmology. Dr. Coil's research interests include large-scale structure, redshift surveys, observational cosmology, galaxy active galactic nucleus (AGN) clustering, AGN formation evolution, galactic winds, and feedback mechanisms in galactic evolution. She completed her Ph.D. in Astrophysics at UC Berkeley in 2004 and received her B.A. in Astrophysics from Princeton University in 1997. Dr. Coil leads a research group that includes postdoctoral fellows and graduate students focused on the latest developments in astrophysical research. Her work has greatly contributed to the understanding of galaxy formation and the dynamics of cosmic structures.
