Biography

Dr. Allison Jardim Gonsalves is an Associate Professor and Program Director for the DISE Graduate Thesis Programs at McGill University’s Faculty of Education. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses focusing on secondary science teaching methods, sociocultural issues in mathematics and science education. As the Director of Graduate Programs in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education, she leads initiatives addressing the underrepresentation of historically marginalized groups in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Dr. Gonsalves is also a Co-Chair of the European Science Education Research Association's Science Identities Special Interest Group and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Research in Science Teaching and Gender & Education. Her research is centered on understanding the inclusion and exclusion processes within STEM education, particularly through the lens of science identities. She engages with students in both post-secondary education contexts and out-of-school settings, exploring the impacts of learning environments on science identity trajectories. Her current SSHRC-funded projects focus on measuring student engagement with equity and sustainability initiatives on campus, examining their influence on identity formation in science education.
