Dr. Allyson Muth

Biography

Allyson Brownlee Muth is the Director of the James C. Finley Center for Private Forests at Penn State University and an Associate Research Professor in Private Forests Management. She has a strong background in forest stewardship, working closely with private forest landowners to promote woodland care through collaborative learning and action research. Muth has been instrumental in advancing understanding of forest stewardship issues, fostering peer-to-peer education, and conducting outreach to support forest landowners across the state. She began her tenure at Penn State in 2004 and played a key role in establishing the Center for Private Forests, focusing on applied research to meet the needs of landowners and stakeholders. Muth holds a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources from the University of the South, a Master of Forestry from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, and an Ed.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her work in the field emphasizes the importance of communication and understanding among those who own and care for forests, reflecting her commitment to the intersection of people and natural resources.
