Biography

Alma Petchersky’s illustrious debut at Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires marked her as an outstanding pianist of international caliber. She has recorded for prestigious labels such as BBC, ASV, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, showcasing a rich array of music from the Americas, Spain, and Russia. With acclaimed performances across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, her concerts at Wigmore Hall and the Kennedy Centre have drawn glowing reviews. Gramophone magazine characterized her performances as 'alive with fantasy and brilliance.' Her sixth CD, a recording of Spanish composer Joaquin Turina's works, received praise from International Record Review for its 'thrilling shots of spirited bravura,' and the Toronto Star noted it as 'listening pleasure from beginning to end.' Alma has a passionate dedication to reviving masterpieces by great, neglected composers, particularly in her exploration of complete piano music by Villa-Lobos, resulting in highly acclaimed CDs. Her performances have been described as technically excellent and expressive, with a refined interpretation of the piano repertoire. She is also actively engaged in music education, teaching at the University of Toronto and previously at York University in the UK, while conducting master classes internationally.
