Biography

Amanda van Loon obtained her bachelor's degree in Psychobiology and her research master's in Cognitive Neurobiology at the University of Amsterdam. She completed her PhD in 2022 at the department of Clinical Child and Family Studies. Her doctoral work involved a project titled 'Connecting Education and Youth Care,' focusing on the development of the Response Intervention Model, aimed at addressing school-related stress among secondary school students. Amanda's research examined the impact of stress interventions, identifying effective factors that contribute to their success as well as the challenges faced by students. Currently, she works on the SterkWerk project, which investigates the effectiveness of a classroom-based approach for groups of children aged 5-8, promoting responsibility, ownership, and prosocial behavior. Her research theme within the Sector Plan for Social Behavioural Sciences is the resilience of youth, exploring the building blocks that influence resilience, including genetic predispositions and geopolitical influences. In addition to her research, Amanda teaches a minor in Juvenile Delinquency and supervises students in their thesis writing.
