Biography

Amy Cordileone is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Program in Educational Theatre at NYU Steinhardt. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. and conducted her doctoral field research in Northern Uganda during the summer of 2009 and spring of 2010, culminating in her dissertation titled 'Remarkable Disruptions: Dialogues in Teaching and Learning Drama in Northern Uganda.' Cordileone received her B.A. in Theatre from the University of California at Irvine. Currently, she serves as an administrator, faculty member, and student-teaching supervisor at NYU Steinhardt. Amy is actively involved in the Program in Educational Theatre's initiatives, including the Shakespeare Initiative and Theatrix!, which produces various forums annually. Her directing work includes the Shakespeare Youth Ensemble's production of 'Noble Kinsmen' in 2009 and co-producing an evening of Shakespearean Monologues and Scenes in 2010. Additionally, Cordileone has created several festivals, including the Instant Gratification: 24-Hour Play Festival and New Plays for Young Playwrights. As part of her community engagement, she founded the Teacher Exchange program in 2006, aimed at fostering cross-cultural collaborations between educators in Uganda and the United States. Her scholarly work includes publications that explore the intersection of drama education and social justice, emphasizing the transformative potential of theatre arts in various educational contexts.
