Dr. Amy Dodd

Biography

Amy is the Subject Director for the PGCE Geography course at King's College London, focusing on curriculum design and development. Since joining King's in 2022, she has amassed extensive experience in teacher education, particularly in secondary geography teaching and leadership. Before this role, Amy worked as a lecturer in Geography at Birmingham City University, where she taught PGCE (Core Schools Direct) and PGDE courses. Her work also involved collaborating with colleagues to enhance Post-Compulsory Undergraduate routes, thereby applying research from various subjects to inform teaching practices and broaden knowledge in teacher education and landscape architecture. Amy is actively engaged in wider teacher education networks across the UK and has contributed to the National Professional Qualifications module on Teaching and Leadership. She specializes in marking GCSE Level Geography papers and non-examined assessments with AQA. An active member of the Royal Geographical Society and the Geographical Association, Amy promotes geography teacher education and collaborates with educators to support GA members in navigating challenges in the educational landscape. Her research has specifically examined the gender challenges faced by female geography teachers in secondary classrooms, including issues related to teacher identity and the curriculum. Areas of interest encompass women's experiences in secondary geography classrooms, curriculum content, and teacher identity.
