Biography

Amy Eguchi is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Education Studies at the University of California, San Diego. She holds an M.A. in Child Development from Pacific Oaks College, an Ed.M. in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Cambridge. Amy brings a wealth of experience as a teacher leader in technologically enhanced education, emphasizing STEM+C learning, particularly in educational robotics and computer science (CS) education tailored for K-12. Her professional endeavors focus on providing STEM+C learning opportunities to underprivileged students, with a special dedication to female students. Her research projects enhance student learning through a transdisciplinary approach, utilizing technologies such as educational robotics and digital fabrication tools. In 2000, she became involved with RoboCupJunior, an international organization dedicated to promoting robotics and AI among young generations, where she has served on the technical committee and as co-chair at various organizational levels. Additionally, Amy has been the Vice President of the RoboCup Federation, representing RoboCupJunior for six years on its Board of Trustees. As an educator, she has extensive experience employing educational robotics as a learning tool across K-12 settings. She also facilitated advanced robotics and coding clubs at Columbia University and led a RoboCupJunior Dance team to become World Champion in 2008 in Suzhou, China. Currently, she serves as Chairperson for the World Robot Summit's Junior Category, which aims to provide unique opportunities for students to envision and create robots that coexist in everyday life. Moreover, Amy is an advisory group member for the AI for K-12 initiative, collaborating with K-12 educators to develop teaching standards for computer science.
