Biography

Amy M. Lieberman is an Associate Professor and Director of Doctoral Studies at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. Her research focuses on how deaf children acquire American Sign Language (ASL) and the ways children learn to perceive language information through visual modalities. Lieberman leads an NIH-funded investigation into word learning and attention in deaf and hard-of-hearing children, studying how early language experiences influence language processing in both deaf adults and children. Additionally, she works with preservice teachers within Boston University’s Deaf Studies program, employing a multilingual approach to educate deaf students. Lieberman has previously taught courses in early childhood deaf education and has presented her research at various conferences, including the Cognitive Science Society and the Boston University Conference on Language Development.
