Dr. Amy Shelton

Biography

Amy Lynne Shelton is a Professor and the Executive Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY), where she is dedicated to designing, delivering, and studying innovative educational models aimed at supporting a diverse community of advanced learners, families, and educators. Prior to becoming CTY’s executive director, Shelton was the center’s Senior Director of Research, where she navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. She is also the founder of the CTY Baltimore Emerging Scholars Program, a free enrichment initiative for Baltimore students demonstrating high academic potential. Shelton's academic background includes joint appointments with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, in addition to her prior role within the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at JHU. Her research focuses on spatial skills, individual differences in learning mechanisms, and the equitable identification and characterization of students' educational needs. Shelton's work aims to enhance understanding of fundamental skills in learning and address educational equity for underserved populations.
