Biography

Amy Simmons is an Associate Professor at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin, where she teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in music education. Her research delves into the development of expertise in music teaching and performance, particularly focusing on motor learning. In addition to her teaching, Simmons serves as the Research Chair for the National Association for Music Education and chairs the Research Committee for the Texas Music Educators Association. She coordinates the Texas Music Education Research online journal and the Research Poster Session at the annual TMEA Clinic Convention. Simmons has also been involved with the Editorial Board of the Journal of Research in Music Education and Texas Music Education Research. Prior to joining UT Austin, she worked as a band director in the Lewisville Independent School District and has an extensive background as a professional oboist, performing in ensembles throughout Austin and San Antonio.
