Ana T. Pérez-Leroux is a Professor of Spanish Linguistics and the Chair of the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on understanding how children, both monolingual and bilingual, acquire syntax and semantics, particularly the smallest silent components of sentence grammar, such as determiners, prepositions, number, tense, mood, aspect, null objects, and subjects. She explores how grammatical complexity emerges through developmental interactions of these components. Currently, she is investigating the acquisition of recursive noun phrases. Prof. Pérez-Leroux teaches courses on language acquisition, Spanish grammar, and bilingualism. She has served on the editorial boards of several journals, including Bilingualism: Language and Cognition and Borealis, and since 2019, she has been the co-editor of the Revista de Logopedia y Foniatría.
