Dr. André De Quadros

Biography

André de Quadros is a music educator, conductor, ethnomusicologist, writer, and human rights activist who has conducted research in forty countries. His professional work spans diverse settings, including professional ensembles, projects in prisons, and initiatives focused on peacebuilding and psychosocial rehabilitation for refugees and victims of trauma. He leads choirs such as Common Ground Voices (Israeli-Palestinian-international), the Manado State University Choir, and the Muslim Choral Ensemble. De Quadros' conducting engagements include the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Bulgaria and the Massachusetts All-State Chorus. He is deeply committed to justice and equity within music education and has made significant contributions to community engagement and international talks. He co-founded The Choral Commons, focusing on social justice through choral music. As an editor and contributor, he has produced several noteworthy publications on music education and community development, including works exploring the intersection of the arts with public health in low-income areas. Currently, he holds multiple visiting professorships and has been a leader at Boston University, where he served as Director of the School of Music and Chair of the Music Education Department, among other roles.
