Dr. Andrea Gauthier

Biography

Andrea Gauthier is a lecturer and research fellow in Education Technology at University College London (UCL) within the Knowledge Lab. Her research focuses on the design of visual media and digital technologies that influence ways people think, feel, and behave. Currently, she is concentrating on the use of interactive data-driven technologies, like data visualization dashboards and AI-enabled decision aids, to support complex decision-making and enhance community interconnectedness in fields such as medicine and climate change/sustainability. Andrea has previously worked on designing game-based learning environments aimed at helping learners resolve misconceptions that hinder future learning. She has a background in biomedical communication, having received her Bachelor of Applied Arts in Illustration from Sheridan Institute of Technology, followed by a Master's in Biomedical Communications from the University of Toronto. Andrea completed her PhD in Medical Sciences in 2018, where she investigated the impact of game design on conceptual change regarding student misconceptions in molecular environments. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with various organizations, providing her expertise in scientific illustration and media design.
