Biography

Andrea Jonsson is an Associate Professor and Director of the Voice+ Research Lab in the School of Modern Languages at Georgia Tech. She co-leads the Serve-Learn-Sustain (SLS) Study Abroad program and the Language, Environment, Arts France (LEAF) summer study abroad program. Dr. Jonsson received her Bachelor of Music from McGill University and a PhD in French from the University of Pittsburgh. Her research examines the intersection of voice, gender, affect, and contemporary culture, literature, music, and media, focusing on how women's voices offer new perspectives to rethink linguistic hegemony. Her interdisciplinary methodology is demonstrated in her work, including publications on media, humor, and transgressive graphic narratives. She co-authored the book 'Young-Girls Echoland: #Theorizing Tiqqun' that explores performative responses to political texts. Dr. Jonsson's work spans feminist perspectives in popular culture and vocal studies, and she has received a Humanities Center Fellowship for her innovative research in music and voice studies. She has designed numerous courses that facilitate critical discussions on popular culture and critical theory, emphasizing a student-led approach in learning.
