Biography

Andrea Rassell is a media artist and interdisciplinary researcher focused on science art, particularly in the domain of nanoart. Her work engages with nanoscience and nanotechnology, creating experimental films and moving image installations that explore scale, technological mediation, and multisensory perception within the sub-molecular realm. Rassell's works have been showcased at various prestigious platforms, including the New York Imagine Science Festival and the Oaxaca FilmFest in Mexico. She was the 2019 recipient of the Australian Network for Art and Technology's Synapse residency, during which she developed moving image pieces that examined the social and cultural implications of diagnostic systems in collaboration with the Ian Potter NanoBioSensing Facility. In 2020, she was an artist-in-residence at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico and is a member of the ANAT Ideate programme. In 2021, Rassell began her term as a Forrest Prospect Fellow at SymbioticA, University of Western Australia. Her academic credentials include a PhD in Media & Communication from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University, where she focused on nanoscientific imaging and technological mediation in moving images.
