Andrew Chapman obtained a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Toronto after working in the lab of John Yeomans. His graduate work with Ron Racine at McMaster University focused on factors regulating changes in synaptic strength in the entorhinal cortex and sensorimotor cortex of awake animals. He later moved to the Université de Montréal to conduct postdoctoral work with Jean-Claude Lacaille, where he used intracellular recordings from individual neurons in acute brain slices to investigate synaptic alterations and rhythmic activity in hippocampal inhibitory interneurons. Andrew joined the Department of Psychology at Concordia University in 1999 and became an Associate Professor in 2004 and a Professor in 2013. His research employs various electrophysiological and pharmacological techniques to examine the short- and long-term alterations in synaptic strength that contribute to learning and memory in cortical circuits.
