Dr. Andrew Mcgregor

Biography

Andrew McGregor is a human geographer whose research focuses on innovative responses to global environmental change, particularly in Australia and Southeast Asia. His current research interests center on societal transitions towards sustainable and ethical food systems, political ecology, and the implications of alternative protein industries. He explores areas such as plant-based meats, precision fermentation, and cultivated meat, as well as the societal narratives around these alternative proteins. McGregor is engaged in projects with various organizations including CSIRO and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research to investigate the social dimensions of food systems and transitions. He has supervised numerous PhD and Masters students, contributing to academic development in his field. His past work includes a focus on carbon forestry in Indonesia, examining the complexities of climate finance and the interactions between people and the environment. With over a decade of research outputs, he is actively involved in studying food justice and the sustainable integration of alternative proteins into global food systems.
