Dr. Ania Plomien

Biography

Ania Plomien is an Associate Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science in the Department of Gender Studies. Her research focuses on feminist political economy, exploring both micro and macro-level processes that shape gender inequality, social reproduction, and labor dynamics. Plomien examines the influence of neoliberal policies on gendered experiences within labor markets across Europe, particularly looking at transformations in Poland and Ukraine. She is involved with various academic and civil society initiatives aimed at advancing gender equity in policy-making. Plomien co-convenes the BSA Care and Social Reproduction Study Group and has been part of several research collaborations, analyzing the impacts of socio-economic policies and labor migration on gender relations. Her contributions to scholarly discourse include analyzing gender diversity policies in banking and finance following the 2008 financial crisis, investigating labor mobility, and assessing the socio-economic inequalities present in post-socialist contexts. Her expertise covers a wide range of topics including gender, care, work, transnational labor mobility, and the political economies within Central and Eastern Europe. Plomien also supervises PhD candidates working on diverse research projects linking gender studies with social and economic policy interventions.
