Dr. Anil Balan

Biography

Anil Balan is a Senior Lecturer in Professional Legal Education at the Dickson Poon School of Law, King's College London. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in law, a legal practice master's, and a doctoral degree in higher professional education from prestigious institutions including Oxford and University College London. Before joining academia, Anil served as a Principal Lecturer in Law at the University of East London, where he was the course leader for the undergraduate law program. Anil is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an external examiner at the University of Chester. He practiced as a solicitor for ten years, specializing in Commercial Litigation, Corporate Insolvency, and Family Law at various large national firms. In his teaching, Anil focuses on a range of law modules including Contract Law, Tort Law, Family Law, and Legal Skills, enhancing teaching methods and curriculum design to support law students from culturally diverse backgrounds. His research interests include human rights in family law, civil procedure rules, corporate recovery, and the impact of artificial intelligence on legal education. Anil has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to various legal education conferences.
