Dr. Anna Harris

Biography

Anna Harris is a principal investigator involved in the Making Clinical Sense project at Maastricht University, which examines the impact of digital medicine and pedagogical technologies on medical education. Her focus is on how these technologies affect the ways medical students learn crucial physical examination skills, traditionally taught at the bedside, now often learned through videos and simulated models. The research adopts an anthropological approach to study the practices within medical education across various culturally and materially diverse settings in Western and Eastern Europe as well as West Africa. By integrating historical and ethnographic methods, the project aims to advance the understanding of the technological influence on sensory learning in the medical field. Anna collaborates with a team of ethnographers to explore the everyday implications of these technologies in medical training, with the goal of developing innovative methodologies for research in medical education and contributing to social scientific scholarship on these issues.
