Biography

Anna Keune's research stands at the intersection of learning sciences and design scholarship. She investigates design technologies and materials used in both school and out-of-school learning contexts to advance the understanding of gendered materiality in STEM learning. Guided by constructionist and posthumanist theoretical commitments, along with participatory approaches to design, Anna's work focuses on the empirical study of materials that foster STEM learning and transform outcomes in STEM participation. She uses these insights to widen participation in education. Anna received her postdoctoral training at the University of California, Irvine, and Ruhr-University Bochum, concentrating on STEM equity and adaptive educational technologies. She graduated with a PhD in Learning Sciences from Indiana University in 2020, where her dissertation, centered on fiber crafts within the context of computer science education, won the prestigious Indiana University Distinguished PhD Dissertation Award. Additionally, she has studied New Media Art and Design at Aalto University, and she has held visiting researcher positions at the University of California, Berkeley and Srishti School of Art, Design, and Technology.
