Biography

Anna Lim is a lecturer in Deaf Studies at Boston University’s Wheelock College of Education and Human Development. Her teaching focuses on Deaf education, diversity, oppression, social justice within Deaf communities, and the structure of sign language. Her research interests encompass multilingualism among Deaf people of color, raciolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, and heritage language acquisition, particularly Tagalog. As a doctoral student in the Language & Literacy Education program at Boston University, her dissertation investigates the manifestations and ramifications of raciolinguistic ideologies in the experiences of immigrant Deaf students of color within the Deaf education system. Lim has worked as a research assistant in Language Acquisition & Visual Attention Lab and continues to assess ASL vocabulary development in young Deaf children. She has received the Student Impact Award at the 4th International Conference on Sign Language Acquisition and has experience as an elementary social studies teacher and ESL instructor at Gallaudet University’s English Language Institute. Her notable presentations include topics ranging from the experiences of immigrant Deaf students of color to innovative linguistics within the Deaf community.
