Biography

Annette C. Anderson is an Assistant Professor and Deputy Director of the Center for Safe and Healthy Schools at Johns Hopkins University's School of Education. A native of Baltimore, she has dedicated her career to educational equity and adequacy. Anderson has served in various school-based roles, including classroom teacher, leader, curriculum coordinator, and assistant principal. She was also the chief executive officer and founding principal of the Widener Partnership Charter School, an innovative university-assisted charter school in Pennsylvania that gained recognition for its successful model of university-public school partnerships. As Deputy Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Safe and Healthy Schools, she has been featured in media and internet education outlets. Anderson was named the 2021 Educator of the Year by the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania and received the 2023 AERA Outstanding Public Communication of Education Research Award, along with being appointed as the 2025 Provost’s Fellow for Public Engagement at Johns Hopkins University. She holds a Ph.D. and a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a master's in public policy from Georgetown University, and a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University.
