Dr. Anthony Brown

Biography

Anthony L. Brown is a Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Texas at Austin. He also serves as a Professor in the Center for African and African American Studies and the Department of African and African Diaspora Studies. He holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, attained in 2006. His research agenda intertwines various strands that broadly relate to the education of African Americans, focusing specifically on how educational stakeholders address the needs of African American male students and how the school curriculum reflects the historical experiences of African Americans. Brown's scholarly work has been published in prestigious journals such as the Teachers College Record and the Harvard Educational Review. He has been recognized with several awards for his contributions to education, including the Texas Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award and the AERA Division B Outstanding Book Award. His publications include works on multicultural education, race in curriculum, and educational policies that affect African American students. With a focus on historical and contemporary discourses about African American students in schools, Professor Brown continues to lead critical discussions in the field of education.
