Biography

Apoorva Bhandari is an Assistant Professor of Research at Brown University in the Department of Cognitive, Linguistic, and Psychological Sciences. Her research program focuses on understanding the psychological and computational neural principles that govern human flexible cognition, particularly in educational settings. She employs a variety of methodologies, including behavioral methods, functional MRI, and computational modeling, particularly utilizing machine learning. Apoorva's work addresses questions across a broad range of topics such as fluid intelligence, learning and generalization, cognitive control, cognitive maps, and social decision-making. She completed her undergraduate training in biochemistry and molecular biology in India, then pursued a Master’s degree in neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh, followed by a PhD in cognitive neuroscience from the University of Cambridge, where she worked with John Duncan. Apoorva's research is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Mental Health and the National Science Foundation.
