Biography

Ariane Echenique Calleja is an Assistant Instructional Professor in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. Growing up in Tafalla, a small town in the Navarra region of Spain, she developed a keen interest in languages at a young age. This passion guided her decision to pursue a degree in Translation and Interpretation at the University of the Basque Country from 2018 to 2022. Her studies encompassed a variety of languages, including Basque, Spanish, English, French, and Arabic. Demonstrating her enthusiasm for languages, Ariane undertook an Erasmus exchange program at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, where she added Portuguese to her linguistic repertoire. She finds the field of translation fascinating, with a particular inclination towards language teaching, which prompted her to pursue a Master's degree in Secondary Education focusing on English teaching at the University of Granada for the 2022-2023 academic year. During her practicum experience at a secondary school, she solidified her love for teaching. Concurrently, Ariane is pursuing a Master's in English Studies at the University of Jaén, specializing in language teaching. Her approach to language teaching emphasizes active methodologies that enhance communication and cultural engagement, as she believes that language and culture are inseparable. Ariane strives to create safe classroom environments where students feel comfortable asking questions and are motivated to learn. She holds a special appreciation for the Basque language and is eager to share her passion with her students.
