Biography

Ariel Kalil is a developmental psychologist and a Professor at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago, where she directs the Center for Human Potential and Public Policy and co-directs the Behavioral Insights Parenting Lab. Her research focuses on the intersection of economic conditions, parenting, and child development. Kalil has held visiting appointments at the University of Stavanger's School of Business and Law and the Norwegian School of Economics, and is currently an Associate Investigator at the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Children and Families Over the Life Course. Her lab draws from behavioral economics and neuroscience to design and experimentally test technology-based interventions aimed at strengthening parental engagement in child skill development, particularly among low-income families. She received her PhD in developmental psychology from the University of Michigan and joined the faculty at Harris in 1999 after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at Michigan's National Poverty Center. Kalil has been recognized with multiple awards, including the William T. Grant Foundation Faculty Scholars Award and the Changing Faces of America's Children Young Scholars Award from the Foundation for Child Development.
