Biography

Ashraf Sewailam is a prominent bass-baritone known for his powerful performances in opera. He made his debut at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, where his voice was praised for its velvety and majestic quality. Over the years, he has performed various signature roles across major opera houses, including the Lyric Opera of Kansas City and the New Orleans Opera. Sewailam’s repertoire encompasses traditional lyric bass roles and challenging comedic parts, notably in Rossini's works. His performances have garnered critical acclaim for their compelling interpretations and vocal prowess. He has appeared in numerous productions, demonstrating versatility with roles in La bohème, Don Giovanni, and La Cenerentola, among others. In recent engagements, he has joined the Royal Opera House Muscat and Opera San Antonio, and will appear in productions such as Carmen and Aida. Apart from singing, Sewailam has experience in directing and has served as a music director for Disney productions. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Performance Pedagogy from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
