Biography

Asif Wilson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses on justice-centered pedagogies within P-20 educational contexts, as demonstrated by his publications in several peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Curriculum Theorizing and Rethinking Schools. His work examines the historical and contemporary forces that shape justice-centered pedagogies and how teachers can conceptualize and engage students in justice-centered educational spaces. Wilson is a three-time alumnus of the University of Illinois Chicago, earning his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a master’s degree in Educational Studies, and his doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. He is actively involved in educational organizing at both local and national levels. Wilson teaches various courses, including CI 402, which focuses on teaching diverse middle grade students; CI 499, which covers issues in the development of education; CI 508, which explores urban schooling; and EDUC 202, a seminar on social justice dynamics in a pluralistic society.
