Biography

Astrid Vanessa Pérez Piñán is an associate professor at the University of Victoria, specializing in Public Administration. Her interdisciplinary research integrates feminist scholarship and critically examines the divergences between global development agendas and local realities, particularly in the context of decolonial feminism and economic development. Astrid has a background rooted in Puerto Rico, drawing from her ancestry of Taino, African, and Spanish heritage, which informs her research focus on issues such as colonization, reproductive justice, and food sovereignty. She holds a PhD in Gender and International Development from Trinity College Dublin, an MPhil in International Peace Studies, and a Bachelor’s degree in Modern Languages from the University of Puerto Rico. Astrid teaches graduate courses on Gender Mainstreaming, Citizen Participation, and Governance, as well as Research Methods related to Community Development.
