Biography

Audrey Cameron, OBE, is a Chancellor's Fellow in Science Education at the University of Edinburgh. She has a rich academic background, beginning with a BSc Hons in Chemistry from Paisley College of Technology (now University of West of Scotland), followed by a PhD in Polymer Chemistry from Strathclyde University. Cameron's research career was marked by postdoctoral work at Strathclyde and Durham Universities before transitioning to education in 2003. At the University of Edinburgh, she served as a Research Fellow at the NSPCC Child Protection Research Centre and contributed to Erasmus+ projects focused on the employment of Deaf individuals and gender-based violence. As a Chancellor's Fellow, her research centers on the integration of British Sign Language in science education and the training of Chemistry teachers. She has played a pivotal role in numerous inclusive education initiatives, including managing the Scottish Sensory Centre’s BSL Glossary project, which developed over 3,000 STEM BSL signs. Cameron advocates for inclusivity and accessibility in education and participates actively in the academic community, delivering numerous presentations on STEM education and sign language.
