Dr. Avery Blankenship

Biography

Avery Blankenship is an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University in the College of Arts and Sciences. Her research specializes in nineteenth-century American literature, focusing particularly on cookbooks and domesticity. She is currently working on a book project that explores the significance of food stains as resistance marks within the context of nineteenth-century domestic literature and culture, highlighting the importance of marking culinary spaces. Her research interests encompass a range of topics within the field of American literature, including the analysis of recipes, gender and sexuality, book history, and Digital Humanities. Blankenship's academic background includes a Ph.D. from Northeastern University, which she is expected to complete in 2025, as well as a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree from the same institution and Rhodes College, respectively. She has contributed to notable publications in her field, showcasing the intersections of political commentary and machine learning models in analyzing historical recipes, along with discussions on the hybridity of newspaper genres.
