Dr. Ayse Bilgin

Biography

Ayse Bilgin is a Professor at the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at Macquarie University. She holds degrees in Bachelor of Engineering, MBA, Master of Mathematics, PhD, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching, as well as a Master in Health Education Leadership and Management. She has been involved in the International Association for Statistical Education (IASE) as President from 2021 to 2023 and Past President from 2023 to 2025. Her research primarily focuses on the applications of statistics in health sciences, educational methodologies in statistics, and the impacts of learning environments on student learning. She has received multiple accolades including the Australian Learning and Teaching Council's Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning and the Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT). Ayse is also active in research supervision, guiding both higher degree research candidates and Master of Applied Statistics students. Her contributions to the field of statistics education and research have been widely acknowledged, including a finalist position in the Eureka Prize for her involvement in innovative health research. Ayse is committed to enhancing statistical education and is an influential figure in the academic community, contributing to various editorial roles and academic committees.
