Biography

Professor Basia Diug is the Head of Undergraduate Courses and Head of the Medical Education Research Quality unit at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. With extensive experience that began in 2006, she is currently the Director of the Bachelor of Health Sciences and co-chair of MD Theme II: Society, Population, Health and Illness. Professor Diug's research focuses on improving medical education and enhancing research literacy among health professionals. Her expertise lies in both quantitative and qualitative research methods and project management, and she received her PhD in 2013 for her work on a NHMRC funded case-control study investigating factors contributing to bleeding risk in patients on warfarin therapy in the community. She has earned numerous awards for her excellence in teaching and innovation in learning technology, including the International Council Public Health Institutional Teaching Excellence Award in 2024 and the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence in 2015. Professor Diug has served in various leadership roles, including as treasurer and vice president of the Council of Academic Public Health Institutions Australia from 2017 to 2022, further contributing to her recognition in the field of public health education.
