Biography

Bec Imrich is an artist, writer, and educator born in Cambridge, MA, currently living and working in San Francisco. Imrich’s interdisciplinary practice encompasses photography, sculpture, and drawing. Holding an MFA in Studio Art and an MA in Visual Critical Studies from the California College of the Arts, Imrich has taught at the California College of the Arts and has worked with the education departments of both the Phillips Collection and the Aperture Foundation. Imrich contributed to the development of Aperture’s visual literacy curriculum and Aperture Sight. Imrich's artistic practice explores themes of liminal space, reflecting on vaguely ominous domestic environments and the paranoid interior worlds shaped by shared pressures of internalized capitalism and environmental precarity. Through her work, she investigates the intersection of 2D image space and sculptural forms, creating flattened sculptures and sculptural images that reveal the vacillation between internal perseveration and external stimuli, tracing the exhaustion linked to the complexities of today's world.
