Biography

Ben Edwards is a Senior Fellow at the Australian National University (ANU) Centre for Social Research Methods, and the Principal Investigator of the GENERATION study, a long-term research initiative following 15,000 students as they transition from school to life. He also directs a partnership project with the University of Oxford tracking government responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. With a PhD in Psychology from Deakin University and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Psychology, his expertise lies in longitudinal studies focusing on child and youth development, particularly in relation to disadvantaged groups such as refugees. His previous role was as Executive Manager for Longitudinal Studies at the Australian Institute of Family Studies, where he led significant national longitudinal research projects. Edwards is recognized nationally for his contributions to social policy concerning children and youth, particularly addressing the challenges of implementing early childhood education and the intergenerational impacts of trauma on disadvantaged families. He serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Australian Journal of Social Issues and advises various governmental and international organizations on related matters.
