Biography

Ben Swift is an internationally recognized interdisciplinary scholar, electronic/computer music artist, and creative technologist. He specializes in artificial intelligence and machine learning, computational art and music, computing education, user experience (UX) design, and cybernetics. Ben leads the Cybernetic Studio, a community that explores the impact of cybernetic systems through the integration of hardware, software, and human interaction. As a livecoding artist, he has performed at international arts festivals, including the International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA) and the International Conference on Live Coding (ICLC). He is the founding director of the ANU Laptop Ensemble, which is a collective focused on interdisciplinary computer music research and teaching. Ben has contributed to the development of open-source software tools for generative AI and creative coding, as well as data analysis and visualization. He is a core developer of the Extempore programming environment, which is used by a global community of programmers, artists, and musicians. With over 15 years of experience, Ben has also served as a community manager, technical writer, and outreach ambassador in the open-source software domain.
