Dr. Benjamin Bayly

Biography

Dr. Benjamin Bayly is an Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics, Sociology, Education at Pennsylvania State University, where he directs the Penn State Kid Care program. His research focuses on prevention science, emphasizing protective factors in childhood and adolescence, and the evaluation of early childhood education programs. He has a Ph.D. in Prevention Science from Washington State University, completed in 2017, and has served as a postdoctoral fellow in the Prevention Methodology Training Program at Penn State University in 2019. Bayly's work includes studies on the impacts of early childhood adversity on later life outcomes, and he employs advanced statistical methods such as latent variable models to inform program implementation and evaluation. His recent publications have contributed to understanding the effects of educational interventions in community-based childcare settings and the dynamics of teacher-student relationships in early education. He is actively involved in securing funding for research aimed at improving educational practices and outcomes for young children, particularly those facing developmental challenges. In addition to his research, Dr. Bayly mentors graduate students in his department, fostering the next generation of researchers in the field of childhood education.
