Biography

Bharath Chandrasekaran is the Ralph Jean Sundin Endowed Professor and Department Chair at Northwestern University, specializing in the communication sciences and disorders. He previously served as Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the same department. Dr. Chandrasekaran is trained as a Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologist in India and earned his Ph.D. in Integrative Neuroscience from Purdue University in 2008. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University before joining the University of Texas at Austin in 2010. His research employs a systems neuroscience approach to investigate the computations, maturational constraints, and plasticity underlying auditory signals in speech and music. Throughout the years, his lab has utilized innovative behavioral, multimodal neuroimaging, and modeling approaches to gain a computational and algorithmic understanding of how sounds are represented in the brain, specifically relating them to behaviorally relevant constructs. His interdisciplinary research involves collaboration across various fields, including communication sciences and disorders, neuroscience, linguistics, psychology, engineering, and otolaryngology. Dr. Chandrasekaran's research is currently supported by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
