Biography

Borys Medicky is an Assistant Professor at the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University, specializing in keyboards and early music. A native of Toronto, he has extensive experience as a harpsichord soloist and chamber musician, performing with major early music ensembles and serving as a continuo player in symphonic performances of Baroque works. His particular interest lies in Baroque opera, where he has worked as a rehearsal accompanist and played in the pit orchestra for various productions. Borys co-founded and directed the Toronto Continuo Collective, an ensemble dedicated to fostering interest in stylish basso continuo accompaniment in 17th-century vocal and instrumental music. From 2006 to 2014, he was the artistic director of the Kitchener-based Nota Bene Baroque Players. Before joining Western University in 2017, he served as an organist at the Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist in Toronto. His musical journey began in his youth as he learned to play piano by ear while pursuing a BSc in physics and astronomy. After a transformative visit to the Boston Early Music Festival, he decided to focus on harpsichord performance and completed his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees at prestigious institutions. He has also gained recognition for his expertise in tuning, maintaining, and repairing harpsichords.
