Brent Groves is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research at the University of Western Australia, a position he has held since 2019. He completed his PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Australian National University in 2005, subsequently conducting research in Europe at premier astronomy institutes, including the Max Planck Institute. In 2015, he returned to Australia as a Future Fellow at the Australian National University, initiating his research phase at the University of Western Australia. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in the physics of the interstellar medium and dust, focusing on the heating and cooling of the diffuse phase of the Universe, particularly in star-forming regions and around active galactic nuclei powered by supermassive black holes. His current research includes studying the star formation processes in nearby galaxies and examining the efficient cooling of gas to form stars, alongside the rapid clearing of 'birth materials' once stars are formed.
