Dr. Brian Christie

Biography

Brian Christie is a Professor at the University of Victoria in the area of Neuroscience. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of neuroplasticity and its importance in improving brain health. Christie’s academic journey saw him earn a BSc and MSc from the University of Calgary before completing a PhD at the University of Otago. His post-doctoral work included significant research on synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis, with collaborations across various prestigious institutions. Christie has been instrumental in founding the Neuroscience Graduate Program and has played a lead role in translational research that spans preclinical to clinical studies, particularly concerning developmental disorders such as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and its therapeutic interventions. Christie’s laboratory has received funds from major Canadian health research organizations to support vital work in brain health, including studies aiming to help individuals with neurological issues.
