Biography

Brian P. Coppola is an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Michigan. He holds a BS in Chemistry from the University of New Hampshire-Durham (1978) and a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1984). His research interests include discipline-centered teaching and learning within organic chemistry education, as well as preparing future faculty for academic careers. Over the years, he has focused on the effective design and implementation of instructional methodologies, leading to enhancement in student learning experiences. He has served in various leadership roles within the department, including Associate Chair for Undergraduate Education and Associate Chair for Educational Development Practice. He is also recognized for his mentoring, having received the University of Michigan Rackham Distinguished Graduate Mentor Award and the U-M Provost's Teaching Innovation Prize.
